monotypes, intaglios

My monotypes and etchings are an intuitive, spontaneous expression of my impressions. The starting point often comes from my travel. For monotypes I use oil-based ink and paint on acrylic or zinc plates with brushes, cardboard, fingers, and solvent to achieve different effects. I let ‘things happen’ that suggest new directions to follow. Putting the plate through the press further changes the image. I hope the resulting piece conveys an atmosphere, mood, or energy to which the viewer will react, based on his or her own experiences and interpretations. The etching ideas are inspired similarly while being created using traditional printmaking techniques.
